Introducing Moken
It’s rare that something finds its way into my inbox and blows me away within just a few seconds, but that was the case with Moken. A Cameroon native now living in the United States, Moken channels influence from the likes of Manu Dibango, Francis Bebey, Nina Simone and Van Morrison to create his own special brew of Afro-Pop. But what’s truly awe-inspiring is Moken’s very unique, otherworldly voice which instantly brought to mind the great Robbie Basho. Moken’s refreshing debut album will be released on April 6th via Bantu Records. Mecca Lecca, Feature story, 02/03/2016
MOKEN/Chapters of My Life: A Cameroon griot that's come here and gone gringo, Moken isn't afraid to break down as many walls as possible and craft a nu indigenous folk music for the future. A sonic wild ride loaded with pan-African pop and sensibilities, Moken makes one of those ethnic dates that you don't have to be solely an armchair traveler to appreciate. A fine entry into millennial pop, this is a fine example of what's lies outside the provincial boundaries of your mind. Check it out. Midwest Record, Album review, 02/26/2016, 02/26/16 Text
